Full-Stack Software Engineer / Security Architect

Professional Nerd

Software Engineer with nearly a decade of experience building lean, resilient systems. I specialize in high-risk backends and minimalist architecture, driven by a 'zero-debt' philosophy: if a dependency doesn't earn its keep, it doesn't enter the codebase.

Highspeedinternet Data managment

Full-Stack

One of our websites (Highspeedinternet.com) was having difficulty keeping their data up to date. Our data was updated based off updates from our telecom partners, and those updates would roll in at random intervals. Sometimes multiple times a week. Each of those updates, required a ticket into the developers and a script being run on the back end to take a CSV and update all the data. I automated that entire process, by building a secure admin dashboard that allowed non technical users to upload the CSV and run the update script with a single click. I also implemented a notification system that would alert the team if any errors were encountered during the update process, as well as proper transaction handling ensuring that data integrity was maintained at all times. Due to the increased speed of updates, our "data-accuracy" skyrocketted and we were able to sign millions of dollars worth of new business from smaller telecom partners.

Technical Modernization

Infrastructure & Security

Many of our front end sites were running on legacy Rackspace hosting with a Wordpress CMS. This was a huge security risk and also made it difficult to implement modern features and optimizations. I led the transition away from that legacy infrastructure and towards a modern, containerized infrastructure. I also implemented a custom CMS built on Laravel and Storyblok that allowed for more flexibility and control over our content. This transition not only improved our security posture but also allowed us to implement new features and optimizations that were not possible with our old infrastructure.

Security Drive

Infrastructure & Security

The company I worked for had very strict compliance requirements due to the nature of the industry. There was a lot of pain surrounding security audits being done by external auditors. Mainly the cost. By leveraging the companies tuition reimbursement program, I was able to get the CEH Certificate and step up to fill that skills gap. I helped lead internal security audits, implemented secure coding practices, and collaborated with the security and engineering teams to address vulnerabilities.

Professional Path

2023 — PRESENT

After a tumultuous few years in the industry, I accpted a position at CHG Healthcare and lead the effort to migrate us away from legacy Rackspace servers and onto a modern cloud hosting soloution. This also highlighted a lot of optimizations that were needed, eventually cutting our hosting costs by 500% once they were all finished. There has also been a number of internal tools I've built in order to fill the needs of a, often premium, third party vendor. An internal Dnote app is just 1 example.

2020 — 2023

On that same MarTech team, I grew and diversified my skill set by taking on more complex projects and responsibilities. Including Infosec responsibilities. I helped lead internal security audits, implemented secure coding practices, and collaborated with the security team to address vulnerabilities. This experience sparked my passion for secure software development and led me to pursue a career focused on building resilient, secure systems.

2017 — 2020

Began by diving in the deep end. PHP, Laravel, AWS, and self managed dev ops. Worked for a MarTech (Marketing Technology) team maintaining tools for email marketing, data analytics, and customer segmentation. Cut my teeth in modern API design and also had a fair amount of front end responsibility.
